Forgotten Island opened in the Philippines with a reported ₱97,236,533 at the box office, according to a September 29 report from Manila Republic. The report placed the DreamWorks Animation film at number one for its opening weekend.
The result gives a commercial opening to a film whose Filipino connections are central to its identity. Its story draws on Filipino mythology and culture, with H.E.R. and Liza Soberano leading the voice cast.
Lea Salonga, Manny Jacinto, Dolly de Leon and Jo Koy also appear in the cast. The soundtrack brings in homegrown acts including BINI and SB19.
Those connections help explain why the release is of particular cultural interest in the Philippines. They do not, on their own, establish why individual viewers bought tickets.
The ₱97.2 million figure is an opening-period report, rather than a final lifetime total. As the run continues, the longer story will be how the film’s characters, music and cultural references stay with audiences beyond its first weekend.
